With a continuing business objective of lowering costs, Extreme Lifting believed that by bringing equipment spraying in‐house, major savings could be achieved as well as speeding up system delivery times to their clients. Following a review of the market place and with a desire to embrace the latest technologies and developments in spray room design and the coating equipment market, Extreme Lifting contacted Hi‐Tec Spray Limited.
The Solution
A plan for the design, manufacture, mechanical installation and commissioning of a fully enclosed spray room was produced by the Maidstone branch of Hi‐Tec Spray. The plan was accepted by Extreme Lifting and the spray room became operational less than a week from the initial start of installation.
Extreme Lifting were amazed at the benefits that the in‐house spray room achieved. Not only were their spraying costs reduced by nearly 50%, an average reduction of 10 days was realised in delivery time of their systems to their clients as the equipment did not have to be shipped to and returned from an external spray company. Obviously there were savings in shipping costs too.
The spray room, 2,600mm wide by 2,400mm high and 3,700mm long, was designed for side extraction and supplied complete with extraction plenum, extraction fan, full enclosure with personnel and work access doors, lighting and ducting set to atmosphere.
Constructed from first quality galvanised steel sheet panels folded into shallow tray sections for maximum strength, the spray room was stiffened and supported with rolled steel and prefabricated sections where necessary.
The Result
Mark Warman, Managing Director of Extreme Lifting commented, "We knew that bringing the spraying of our equipment in‐house was a no‐brainer as the savings were obvious to us – it simply was not cost effective to use outside agents. It was also a perfect time for us as our business was increasing and the in‐house spraying operation gave us increased product development time and shortened lead times for our clients. Quality control benefits have become evident too as any spraying errors can be quickly rectified as we have an in‐house operation. Our products and services are used throughout the world and it is important that we maintain our excellent reputation for quality of service, operational excellence in a timely manner at competitive prices. With the introduction of the spray room we now in total control of finishing our systems before they go on site to our clients.''
Mark continued, "We are pleased to have worked with Hi‐Tec Spray, whose values and ethics are similar to our own. They have shown a timely and professional approach to delivering the solution that we wanted."
